How it all began

Linckx was founded in the 1930s by Arthur Linckx, a young graduate of the École des Bois et Marbres in Paris. Not content with using the oil-based paints available on the market at the time, this "jack-of-all-trades" started looking for a softer, more natural material. With modest means, he began to make a mixture of casein and pigments. This powdered paint, packed in bags, was called "distemper" because it was easily soluble in water. The matt texture of this type of paint, reminiscent of the chalky appearance of lime, as well as the unconventional colour palette developed by Arthur Linckx, were highly appreciated by a clientele of professional artists.

In 1934, Arthur Linckx founded the family business that bears his name and continued to manufacture casein paint, giving it an exceptional matt finish. Arthur Linckx passed on the knowledge of his casein paint production to his son André, who took over the company in 1947.

In the 1980s, Jean-Claude Linckx, son of André, took over the management of the company.
